Spanish for Elementary School

K-3 grade

From kindergarten to third grade, classes involve instruction through lessons that integrate hands-on activities, music, storytelling (TPRS) and art into language learning. The curriculum for these grade levels is based on thematic units that aim at developing communicative language skills.  In each grade level, the program contains a recycling component, so students will be able to review, recycle and master previously-learned vocabulary.

4th & 5th grade

Spanish I Foundations

The Spanish curriculum for 4th and 5th grade has a strong communicative and cultural component. Some common activities in these grade levels include role-plays, working in conversational activities in pairs or in small groups and cultural projects. The materials used in class are a combination of workbooks for learning Spanish as a world language along with a variety of other learning and pedagogical materials that includes authentic texts and books, posters, songs, games, etc.

Spanish for Middle & High School

Spanish I

Develop the foundation for Spanish communication. Learn pronunciation, present-tense verbs, essential grammar, common vocabulary, and cultural practices while building confidence in speaking and writing.

Spanish II

Continue developing fluency through past-tense narration, expanded vocabulary, object pronouns, reflexive verbs, and real-life communication in familiar situations.

Spanish III

Move toward more independent communication. Learn to narrate in multiple time frames, express opinions, give advice, use commands, and engage with authentic texts and cultural themes.

Spanish IV

Refine accuracy, fluency, and cultural understanding through advanced grammar, discussion, composition, literature, film, current events, and thematic projects.

Spanish V / AP Advanced Spanish

Deepen advanced communication skills through conversation, analytical writing, cultural study, literature, media, and independent projects conducted primarily in Spanish.

Accelerated Spanish I–II

Complete the core content of Spanish I and Spanish II in a streamlined format designed for motivated students who learn quickly or have prior exposure to Spanish.

Spanish for Heritage Speakers

Strengthen academic Spanish for students who already understand or speak Spanish at home. Focus on grammar accuracy, reading comprehension, vocabulary development, writing, and cultural identity.
