Teaching Approach

Collaborative

Collaboration is the foundation of effective learning. At SUR, the process begins with a complimentary consultation to clarify goals and identify strengths and areas for growth. This conversation serves as a diagnostic, guiding the development of a fully personalized learning plan.

Each plan is tailored to the student’s needs. Once sessions begin, students receive attentive, high-level support throughout, with prompt and consistent communication. The goal is to create a collaborative and supportive learning environment that helps students feel encouraged, motivated, and confident in their progress.

Students and Parents Reviews

As a high school student, I wanted to test out of Spanish 4 so I could go straight into AP Spanish. I worked with Uschi for several months to prepare for the placement exam, and I honestly couldn't have done it without her. Every lesson was tailored specifically to my goal, and she always came prepared with detailed, structured activities that helped me improve quickly.

Uschi was incredibly patient, but she also knew how to push me and keep me accountable. She made every lesson fun, interactive, and creative. By the time I took the placement exam, I felt completely confident and well-prepared.

Thanks to Uschi's amazing tutoring, I scored high on the exam and was able to skip an entire level of Spanish and move directly into AP Spanish. I highly recommend her to any student looking to improve their Spanish skills or prepare for an important exam!

Uschi taught my daughter Middle School Spanish. It wasn't easy for her because she had a learning difference. Uschi spent manny office hours working with her and helping her. Uschi had a way of using picture cards, props, and charts to make the lessons clear. Uschi taught from the Avancemos book and my daughter used the same book in Spanish 1 her 9th grade year. The very next year, my daughter was recommended for Spanish 2 Honors, then Spanish 3. Uschi helped lay the foundation and instilled confidence to help her keep pursuing Spanish.

I also had the pleasure of working with Uschi as a colleague. I saw firsthand how she incoporated dancing and singing with my 1st and 2nd grade students. She made Spanish fun and speaking Spanish was achievable despite the limited number of classes offered. Uschi's understanding of linguistics helped create a roadmap for our Spanish program so other teachers could follow. We are indebted to her and forever grateful.
